Please think over, O Muslim brothers and sisters!
The 10th of Muharram is popularly known as Aashura.
Fasting on this day is highly encouraged.
There seems to surround some confusion with regard to the dates.
As per the Saudi announcement, Aashura falls on Thursday, the 14th November. As per the dates given in UAE Awqaf Ministry’s website, 10th Muharam falls on Wednesday, 13th Nov.
While it is true that we must always go by the local announcement about the sighting of the moon and the commencement of the month, in this case I feel it is better to fast on both days, i.e. 13th and 14th November, Inshaa’Allah.
Some of the merits of the fast of Aashura are mentioned below: Continue reading

Living in UAE in hot summer is extremely uncomfortable. It is only a blessing of Allah that people are able to withstand and are happily continuing with their fasts despite heatwaves, alhamdulillah.
Well, I would like to share with you a lesson-rich experience which I encountered today.
While walking to the masjid for Zuhr prayer, I was looking for shadows of the buildings around to walk under the shade to protect myself from the scorching sun. After offering sunnah prayers, I started continuing with my Tilawah. After reciting only a few verses I came across this ayah which spoke about the same very thing I was doing just before coming to the masjid: find shadows to protect you! Subhanallaah! The Holy Qur’an is a Book of Guidance and Mercy for all mankind. Its verses are a balm for the diseases of the heart, a clear evidence and enlightenment. Allah the most Exalted says, “And We send down of the Qur’an that which is healing and mercy for the believers, but it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss.” (Surah al Israa: 82). We all know that a major earthquake rocked Iran yesterday. The tremors were felt as far as New Delhi and Pakistan. And also here in the UAE among other places.
For the first time in my life I felt the tremors. As if someone was wildly shaking my chair. When I came home my wife said everything at our residence at the 11th floor was shaking!
The immediate thought everyone got was ‘Zalzalah, Zalzalah’! It was so scary. Allaahu Akbar!
Zalzalah, Arabic word for earthquake, comes from the quadrilateral root Zay, laam, Zay, laam ز ل ز ل ZalZal.
Isn’t the sound z-a-l z-a-l itself sounding horrific? Uttering the word Zal-Zal sends shivers down the spine! Continue reading
