Blessed Days, Blessed Souls

🙂 Alhamdulillaah, the blessed month of Dhul Hijjah has commenced 🙂

As per the official announcement in Saudi Arabia, UAE and adjoining places, today (12th Aug) is the First Day of Dhul Hijjah 1439. Accordingly, the Day of Arafah will fall on Monday, the 20th August, and Tuesday, 21st August, will be the first day of Eid al Adhaa. (Please check out for the local announcement done in your respective place as one has to go by the fatwa of one’s region)

Although there are mind-blowing resources already posted on this page, I wish to add the Dhul Hijjah Planner with just a few other related posts, by way of reminder and for the benefit of one and all, InShaaAllah. The focus, for me and you, should be on individual performance: to change the inner self. 

May Allah give us the Tawfeeque and Hidayah to live by the teachings of Qur’an and Hadeeth to the best of our ability. 

The Early Muslims in Ramadhaan & Five Key Areas of Change

In the name of Allah, all praise is for Allah, and may His peace and blessings be upon His final Messenger Muhammad (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wasallam)

Despite the fact that more than a billion Muslims will be fasting this Ramadan, how many are aware of how the Early Muslims (Salaf), those who lived Islam in the best possible way, would observe this sacred month? How they would spend their days and nights and what would change for them during the sacred month. 

The Sunnahs of Fasting

Fasting is one of the greatest acts of worship, and the reward of the one who fasts, seeking thereby the reward of Allah, is not known to anyone except Allah. The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, said: ‘Every deed of the son of Adam is for him, except fasting. It is for Me and I shall reward for it.’” Narrated by al-Bukhaari (1904) and Muslim (1151)

The Ramadan fast is one of the pillars of Islam, and the Muslim must pay attention to preserving his fast, whether it is obligatory or supererogatory, so that Allah may bestow upon him this abundant reward.

There are many Sunnahs with regard to fasting, of which we will mention some:

Making the Best out of the 10 Blessed Days!

In the Quran, the Al-Mighty took an oath by two aspects of His creation, both being great in their stature, both being symbols of Allah, and both being signs to reflect on:

“By the dawn, and by the ten nights” (Surah al-Fajr, verse 1)

The dawn is truly a magnificent sign of Allah. It signifies the end of darkness and passing of the night, and heralds the beginning of a new day. It is a phenomenon that mankind recognises itself as having no control over, as Allah declared in the Qur’an: 

The Likeness of Ramadhaan and Prophet Yusuf

This write-up, by the great scholar Ibn al-Jawzi, is very interesting. The author co-relates the Story of Yusuf and his 11 brothers with Ramadhaan and the other 11 months of the year.

“The month of Ramadan to the other months is like Yusuf to his brothers. So, just like Yusuf was the most beloved son to Ya’qub, Ramadan is likewise the most beloved month to Allah.

No Time Like Ramadan Time :)

Soon, once again, the blessed month of Ramadan will be with us; once again, like “golden hours on angel wings”, will descend upon us its blessed moments.

Like every other year since Hijrah, it will summon Muslims, as individuals and as a corporate body, to an intense and sustained life of Fasting and Prayer, of worship and obedience, of devotion and discipline — all centered on the Qur’an which, too, was sent down in these very moments in the custody of “noble and trustworthy” angels.

Call will go forth to every believer to take to prolonged companionship with the Book of God. To a life of redoubled endeavor to become what God desires Muslims to be. Ramadan bids our hearts and minds, our society and polity, to come to. Joyfully and dutifully the Muslims will respond.

Welcoming Shabaan

Shabaan is the eighth month of the Islamic calendar and considered one of the special months for which we find particular sunan of the Prophet (peace be upon him). It is reported that the Prophet would fast most of the month of Shabaan except for the last few days.

Monday, 10 October is the 9th of Muharram in the Middle East, UK, Europe, USA and many other countries. It is Mustahab to fast on the 9th of Muharram along with the 10th as per the following hadeeth:

Laylatul Qadr: Gearing Up for the Golden Moments!

Allah declares that the Night He sent down His inimitable Book is better than a thousand months. 

Limited Days, Unlimited Nonsense, and a Verse of Warning!

أَيَّامًا مَّعْدُودَاتٍ – Ayyaamam Ma’duudaat – is the apt description for the Month of Fasting. Limited Number of Days!

So limited that you don’t know how fast its days pass until you end up saying: Allah! It is as if Ramadhaan started just now…and see these many days flew away! Subhanallaah! 

Precious moments must be valued and treasured. Not wasted in unnecessary and vain pursuits!

Don’t Miss Ramadhaan’s First Night

With the approach of Ramadan every year, I always recall the following Prophetic hadith:

“My people (Ummah) are granted five gifts that no prophet before me had been given. First, when it is the first night of Ramadan, Allah looks at His servants. He will never punish those at whom He looks. Second, the smell of their mouths when night approaches is more pleasant [to Allah] than the scent of musk. Third, angels seek Allah’s forgiveness for them everyday and night. Fourth, Allah commands Paradise saying, ‘Be prepared and adorned for My servants; they are about to be relieved from the pains of the worldly life and move to My Home and Honor.’ Fifth, when it is the last night (of Ramadan) Allah forgives the sins of all people.” Thereupon, a man asked, “Is it the night of Qadr (Power)?” He (the Prophet) said, “No, don’t you see that once workers finish their tasks, they take their wages?” (Ahmad and Al-Bazzar)

 

A Ramadhaan With Muhammadur Rasoolullah

When you love a person you want be like him. This is especially and spectacularly true when it comes to the love of Muslims towards their beloved Prophet sal-lal-laahu-alaihi-wa-sallam. To quote Ustadh (late) Khurram Murad,

“Indeed, never in history has a man influenced mankind, even beyond his death, so deeply and so pervasively as he has. He brings light and peace to countless hearts and lives. They love him more dearly than their own selves. In him they find their greatest source of inspiration and guidance. He is the ultimate norm and the perfect example for them…….”

The upcoming Ramadhaan will bring in its wake yet another opportunity for the Muslims worldwide to relive and demonstrate, once again, their unflinching love and reverence to the greatest man ever.
