Being a Part of the Blessed Community

ذو as in Surah al Kahf or ذي as in Surah Ar-Rahman is a possessive noun which is always followed by a noun; ذو or ذي means possessor, owner, holder, master of, endowed with.

The plural form of ذو is اولو – ulu, which is followed by the genitive ‘of’.

اولو means owners of, possessors of , people of. Continue reading

Angola: The ‘news’, the denial, the confusion, and clarification

Dear brothers and sisters, Assalamu Alaikum.

Regular readers must be aware that last night I posted my reflections on the so-called news of Angola banning Islam.

This I did after reading the news in this popular Islamic website and also going through this newsmagazine.

I didn’t verify about the authenticity of this ‘news’ as the scholars’ response didn’t leave any room for any doubt to creep in my mind.  Continue reading

Why Ya’juuj and Ma’juuj are Still a Mystery?

The story of Ya’juuj and Ma’juuj (Gog and Magog) in Surah al Kahf is not only interesting but it also has many lessons for us.

Many Muslims read Surah al Kahf on Fridays, and blessed are those who try to understand and ponder over its teachings.

I came across an interesting Question and Answer on Gog and Magog, and would like to re-post here for the benefit of all readers.  Continue reading

Istiqaamah is the key!

Giving brief answers to difficult questions is the hallmark of wisdom.

You might have heard people narrating their bitter experiences of they seeking some naseeha (advice) from such and such Imaam or an ‘Aalim, and having regretted later for seeking advice from such a boring person!

Some of us even stop going to the masjid should we encounter some lecturing ‘naseeha’ from an uninspiring Muslim.

The glorious Prophet Muhammad, sal-lal-laahu-alaihi-wa-sallam, is ‘uswatun hasana’‘the best role model’ for all Muslims.  Continue reading

Summer, Sun, Shadow and……Submission!

Living in UAE in hot summer is extremely uncomfortable. It is only a blessing of Allah that people are able to withstand and are happily continuing with their fasts despite heatwaves, alhamdulillah.

Well, I would like to share with you a lesson-rich experience which I encountered today.

While walking to the masjid for Zuhr prayer, I was looking for shadows of the buildings around to walk under the shade to protect myself from the scorching sun. After offering sunnah prayers, I started continuing with my Tilawah. After reciting only a few verses I came across this ayah which spoke about the same very thing I was doing just before coming to the masjid: find shadows to protect you! Subhanallaah!  Continue reading

Being h e a r t l i n e with Allah!

The interest and involvement one finds in staying and working online cannot be found when you work offline. For when you are online, you are connected to, served by or available through a system.

Connecting with one’s heart is to be online with Allah.

Even though the terms online and hotline were not specifically used in 7th century as they are used and understood now in the computer-savvy 21st century but the fact remains that the Qur’an recognized its importance 14 centuries ago!  Continue reading

‘Word of Allah is Supreme’

While arguing with people, among friends or colleagues, man always wants to prove his own point and keep his opinion high: “My speech is the best”, ‘My viewpoint is correct’, ‘I have got good command over language’, ‘I am superior, so my word must be supreme!’

But when it comes to the choice and living an Islamic life, for a Muslim the Word of Allah is supreme. It is not because he is a Muslim and out of ‘that’ affinity he ‘wants’ the word of Allah to be supreme but because the Word of Allah by itself is so deserving to be supreme, and by all means it is rightly so!  Continue reading

Wal’laahul Musta’aan

Dear brothers/sisters, Assalamu Alaikum. I was thinking of writing on this inspiring topic since a long time and today, alhamdulillah, I am able to make it. Please read on, Inshaa’Allah.

Can there be any Salah (prayer) without the recitation of Surah al Fatihah? NO, right?

Do you know that every time we recite Surah al Fatihah, we Muslims make a commitment to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala: That we worship Him Alone and we seek help from Him Alone!  Continue reading

Ni’mal Maula Wa Ni’man Naseer!

Today (1st Muharram 1434), I would like to discuss on this very popular statement: Ni’mal Maula Wa Ni’man Naseer! This statement is generally said immediately after yet another most inspiring statement: Hasbunallahu Wa Ni’mal Wakeel!

Hasbunallahu Wa Ni’mal Wakeel, Ni’mal Maula Wa Ni’man Naseer!

These two phrases/statements are mentioned separately in different Surahs in the Qur’an. The meaning and the context of these two statements are so striking that we notice many among Muslims uttering and proclaiming them together. While it is not ‘a must’ to say them together, yet the miraculous beauty of the Qur’anic words weaves a tapestry in the canvas of one’s mind! Subhanallah!  Continue reading

Du’aas of Prophets and Messengers of Allah

We Muslims, the followers of the last Prophet – Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him –  are the only fortunate community in the world for having blessed with the Qur’an that includes stories and inspiring lessons from the lives of different Prophets and Messengers of Allah, who came to this world from time to time to guide mankind. The glorious Qur’an, while narrating their life stories and teachings, also makes a mention of their du’aas (supplications). These du’aas are so inspiring that we need to learn them by heart and often call upon Allah by them. These du’aas are Allah’s selections, so to say, for the followers of His last and final Messenger. What an exclusive divine favour upon the Muslim Ummah! Continue reading

Things Are Not Always As They Seem

Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem.

Things are not always as they seem. Let us analyse this statement from an Islamic perspective.

Noah started making his ark in a desert. His friends made fun of him saying, ‘where is water?’ ‘Are you going to sail the ship in the desert?’ He had to tolerate their taunting remarks. Who won ultimately?

Musa’s mother threw her infant son in the river. Did he die?

Yusuf’s jealous and scheming brothers threw him in a well. Was that the end of Yusuf? Continue reading
