Chennai Airport is shut as runway is badly flooded. Trains, buses and vehicles are on a standstill. Never seen before situation is prevailing in Chennai right now. Record downpour of rain in Chennai in 100 years!!

All about Adhaan, the Call to Prayer (Part 1)

أذان  Adhaan (Azaan) translated as ‘Prayer Call’ or ‘Call to Prayer’ originates from the Arabic root أذن adhina which means “to listen, to allow, to permit, to hear, to learn, to call, to announce, to make known, to inform, to notify, to call to prayer, to exhort, to urge, to herald”.

Adhaan is the perpetual International Anthem of Muslims. It is also Islam’s official Broadcasting Channel. Adhaan is in fact the Global Announcement of Muslims – the Proclamation of the oneness of Almighty Lord –  echoed throughout the world via hundreds and thousands of minarets spread across every nook and corner of Planet Earth – not once but five times in a day.

Going beyond the popular cliche 24-7, I can say that the Muslim Prayer Call, Adhaan, is much more than any Live Feed, Live Streaming!

The miracle in Tawaf, the purpose of human existence!

Ka’bah plays a pivotal role in the life of a Muslim. It is an indispensable part of a Muslim’s life.

It is a Muslim’s anchor and nucleus. It is the centre of our life and existence. It is our Qiblah.

Ka’bah is the symbol of monotheism. The flag of Islam.

Yet Ka’bah itself is an empty building with nothing inside.

Taraweeh Recitation: A message to all Imams

The way the Qur’an is recited in some places is so disgusting that it needs to be condemned in the strongest possible terms at least by people endued with knowledge and wisdom. This message by Shaikh (Dr) Haitham Al-Haddad is very apt and I am reposting here for the benefit of my readers.

Last year I wrote a post on this topic (link given below) and it drew mixed reaction from readers. The purpose is not to hurt those innocent and general Muslims who take pains to offer Taraweeh prayers but the message is clearly addressed to the Imams and the Huffaaz who lead Taraweeh prayers and are therefore responsible for providing an opportunity to the musal’leen to listen to the recitation of the Qur’an.

This saying of Ibn Abbas (radhiyallahu anhu) attracted my attention.

Thanks a million to this great companion for making us understand the value of three things in relation to three other most vital aspects of Islam.

The next ayah starting with the address Yaaa Ayyuhal Lazeena Aamanu is Ayah No. 153 of Surah al Baqarah.

In this ayah, Allah motivates His Believers to seek His assistance and help through Sabr and Salah. These are the two vital elements necessary for any Muslim to embark on the road to success.
