Sha’bān is the month where last year’s account of good and bad actions for every individual ascends to Allāh. As we know, there are four instances when our actions ascend to Allāh: the daily record, weekly record, yearly record, and the whole life record. [1]

These two great sayings of the glorious Messenger of Allah – Prophet Muhammad, sal-lal-laahu-alaihi-wa-sallam – in fact set the agenda for the New Year.

Nay, they set the agenda for every every New Month. Every New Week. Every New Day. Every New Moment!

If you care about your Islam, you will value them in your life.

Ramadhaan fasts + 6 Shawwal fasts make fasting every day!

Eid-ul-Fitr marks the first day of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar.

Fasting six days of the month of Shawwal is mentioned in authentic ahadeeth.

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 

“Whosoever fasted in Ramadhaan and then followed up with six fasting days of Shawwal, it is like fasting every day.” (Muslim)

The Muslim and the Hijrah of All Times

Whenever Allah gives us an opportunity to witness the New Year, we must always try to go back to our roots and understand what it is means to be a Muslim, and what is the relevance of hijrah in our life.

So the simple question is: Who is a Muslim?

And What is the hijrah for the modern day Muslim?

Hijrah, the basis of Islamic Calendar

1437 years have passed since the Prophet Muhammad sal-lal-laahu-alaihi-wa-sallam made his epoch-making journey called Hijrah.

Islam, unlike other religions, is not found on hero-worship.

None has any right to misguide!

While attending a contact class during my B.Ed. degree course, I remember one Professor saying, “A teacher has the right to teach. He has the right not to teach. But never has he any right to misguide.”

He was very true. And he was not of Muslim faith! May Allah have mercy on him.

You must be wondering why am I saying this here, and now? 

The Month of Rajab

Alhamdulillah, as Rajab, the 7th month of the Islamic Calendar, has commenced, and there are many misunderstandings and doubts about certain things to be done or not in this sacred month, I am re-posting some Rajab-related matters in the form of questions and answers. Hope this helps, InshaaAllah.

1. What are the four sacred months in Islam?

Saturday is Aashoora Day

Please be reminded that today (Thursday) is 8th of Muharram and Aashoora falls on Saturday (24th October 2015) in UAE, Saudi Arabia and in many other parts of the world.

As per authentic Islamic traditions we are encouraged to fast either on the 9th and 10th of Muharram OR on the 10th and 11th.

This clarification is given here as there is confusion created by the already published calendars by some Muslim governments which erroneously say that today is 9th of Muharram which is NOT the case.

Know Your Hijrah. Do Your Hijrah!
