The Muslim and the Hijrah of All Times

First sermon

Praise be to Allah, Who has prescribed Hajj so for His servants to witness benefits for themselves and mention the name of Allah, the All Knowing. I bear witness there is no deity except Allah, having no partners. I also certify that Muhammad is the Servant of Allah and His Apostle. Allah has preferred him over many others and selected him to be His Messenger. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, his family, his companions, and all those who will follow them in righteousness till the Day of Judgment. 

Ramadhaan fasts + 6 Shawwal fasts = Fasting every day!

Eid-ul-Fitr marks the first day of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar.

Fasting six days of the month of Shawwal is mentioned in an authentic hadeeth.

Dates in the Qur’an and the Sunnah

Those living in the Gulf states are indeed fortunate to have plenty of dates available throughout the year. As Ramadhaan and dates are seen as synonymous in many parts of the world,  I thought of re-posting this, by way of reminder, from my Seerah blog

The date fruit and tree were dear to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the word “date” (and date-palm) is mentioned in the Holy Qur’an more than 20 times. 

What the Prophet particularly read or emphasized?

There are certain Surahs or Ayahs of the Qur’an which, it is reported, the Prophet, blessings and peace be on him, used to recite more often in particular Prayers or on specific occasions, or which he especially extolled by describing their excellent merits and special rewards. You should know them.

The Hadith given below are not meant to prove the superiority of one part of the Qur’an over another. Nor should you ignore the rest of the Qur’an and occupy yourself in reading and memorizing these at the expense of the rest. These selections are useful only because one cannot memorize and read everything every day and because one usually needs to habituate oneself to the reading of a definite portion regularly. What could be better than to follow the Prophet, blessings and peace be on him, and hope for the rewards he has promised. (Note: pdf is available for download)

The Noble Qur’an is Allah’s Word through which He expressed His commands and teachings. It is raised above any possible description.
