Jumu’ah Khutbah in UAE (10 Dhul Hijjah 1433)

Today’s Jumu’ah Khutbah was on the topic ‘On the merits of Ihsan’.

All due praise is to Allah. I praise Him as is befitting to His Majesty and I bear witness there is no deity worthy of worship save Him Alone, having no partners. I also certify that Muhammad is the servant of Allah and His Messenger. Allah has preferred him over many others and selected him to be His Messenger. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, his family, his companions, and all those who will follow them in righteousness till the Day of Judgment.  Continue reading

What the Prophet particularly read or emphasized?

Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem

There are certain Surahs or Ayahs of the Qur’an which, it is reported, the Prophet, blessings and peace be on him, used to recite more often in particular Prayers or on specific occasions, or which he especially extolled by describing their excellent merits and special rewards. You should know them.

The Hadith given below are not meant to prove the superiority of one part of the Qur’an over another. Nor should you ignore the rest of the Qur’an and occupy yourself in reading and memorizing these at the expense of the rest. These selections are useful only because one cannot memorize and read everything every day and because one usually needs to habituate oneself to the reading of a definite portion regularly. What could be better than to follow the Prophet, blessings and peace be on him, and hope for the rewards he has promised. (Note: pdf is available for download) Continue reading

Born to Excel

Dear Brothers and Sisters, Assalamu Alaikum.

This is Part 4 on the series ‘Beyond Excellence: The Making of a Muhsin’.

Part 1     Part 2     Part 3

Born to Excel:

Allah has created human beings to test as to who comes out with flying colours vis-a-vis deeds of excellence. This is very clearly stated in Surah Al Mulk:

 الَّذِي خَلَقَ الْمَوْتَ وَالْحَيَاةَ لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ أَيُّكُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًا

“(It is He) Who has created death and life that He may test which of you is best in deeds…” (67:2) Continue reading

Doing one’s Best!

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Islam, Assalamu Alaikum. Alhamdulillah this is the third part on the series: Beyond Excellence: The Making of a Muhsin.

Do Your Best

When Allah is so good and gracious to us, should we not be good to Him, and consequently be good to ourselves and to others? If we are not good and true to Allah then we will be guilty of being ungrateful to Him. As Allah reveals in the Qur’an: Continue reading

Ihsaan: Beyond Excellence

Dear brothers and sisters in Islam, Assalamu Alaikum.

The word I am going to discuss today is ‘Ihsaan’ احسان Actually this is Part 1 of a series I intend to write, Inshaa’Allah.

The word “excellence” comes from “excel” which means “to be exceptionally good at something”.   Excellence also means “the quality of being extremely good or outstanding”.  It is “the state of excelling; surpassing merit or quality” and “the activity etc. in which a person excels” (Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary and the New Oxford Dictionary of Modern English).
