So Deep, so Rich and brilliantly Meaningful!

The Word أحصى Ahsaa is to ‘count’, ‘compute’ ‘calculate’ or ‘enumerate’.

And this is mentioned in many places in the glorious Qur’an. Continue reading

Aspects of the First Revelation

A brilliant analysis of the first five verses of Surah Al Alaq which I found worthy of sharing.

Prof. U Muhammad Iqbal discusses the question why Allah selected the five verses – 96:1-5 – as the first installment of revelation, and highlights its historical, scientific, educational, doctrinal and spiritual aspects. Read on, InshaaAllah…. Continue reading

Truthfulness: An Islamic Perspective

In Surah al Waaqi’ah, Allah asks a simple question to all mankind: نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَاكُمْ فَلَوْلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ

And in Surah Tawba, Allah orders His Messenger thus: خُذْ مِنْ أَمْوَالِهِمْ صَدَقَةً

The meaning of the first ayah is, “We have created you, so why do you not believe?

And the meaning of the second ayah is, “Take, [O, Muhammad], from their wealth a charity“.

Did you find something significantly common in these two verses? Continue reading

The miracle in ‘Aayah’

This aayah enchants me a lot: سَنُرِيهِمْ آيَاتِنَا فِي الْآفَاقِ وَفِي أَنفُسِهِمْ حَتَّىٰ يَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُمْ أَنَّهُ الْحَقُّ

“We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth.” (Surah Fussilat 41: 53)

And this aayah:

“It is He who has sent among the unlettered a Messenger from themselves reciting to them His verses and purifying them and teaching them the Book and wisdom – although they were before in clear error”. (Surah al Jumu’ah 62: 2)

The myriad of meanings that the word ‘aayah’ connotes is miraculous indeed.

The verses of the Qur’an are in fact the signs of understanding for men of understanding!

Ni’mal Maula Wa Ni’man Naseer!

Today (1st Muharram 1434), I would like to discuss on this very popular statement: Ni’mal Maula Wa Ni’man Naseer! This statement is generally said immediately after yet another most inspiring statement: Hasbunallahu Wa Ni’mal Wakeel!

Hasbunallahu Wa Ni’mal Wakeel, Ni’mal Maula Wa Ni’man Naseer!

These two phrases/statements are mentioned separately in different Surahs in the Qur’an. The meaning and the context of these two statements are so striking that we notice many among Muslims uttering and proclaiming them together. While it is not ‘a must’ to say them together, yet the miraculous beauty of the Qur’anic words weaves a tapestry in the canvas of one’s mind! Subhanallah!  Continue reading

Dates in the Qur’an and the Sunnah

Those living in the Gulf states are indeed fortunate to have plenty of dates available throughout the year. As Ramadhaan and dates are seen as synonymous in many parts of the world,  I thought of re-posting this, by way of reminder, from my Seerah blog

The date fruit and tree were dear to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the word “date” (and date-palm) is mentioned in the Holy Qur’an more than 20 times.  Continue reading
