The Hadeeth often quoted on the occasion of Arafah is in fact the sum and substance of what Islam is all about.

Let us read this hadeeth first, Inshaa’Allah: Continue reading

The Timeless Message of Hajj

Hope this article serves as a timely reminder of the timelessness of Hajj, InshaaAllah.

Islamic terms are powerfully loaded with meanings and connotations. Translating them in English is like belittling their importance and import.

Hajj, when translated as ‘pilgrimage’ dilutes the very spirit of this great Islamic practice. Pilgrimage means ‘a journey of devotion’ which Hajj does include but then goes beyond it. Continue reading

The correlation between Ihram and Kafan

The happiness of celebrating Eid al Adhaa on Thursday took a 180 degree turn.

The heart breaking news of the stampede at Mina resulting in the death of 717 Hajj pilgrims and injuring 800+ changed the entire scenario.

Sorrow and sadness is prevailing among Muslims around the globe. Some are in shock, unable to hear the distressing news coming from Makkah. Continue reading

When Tears Speak Louder Than Words!

Here is some relevant news report from Mount Arafah by Arab News, Saudi Arabia’s popular newspaper:

A white sea of faithful surged from Mina to Arafat as dawn broke on the second day of the five-day event. Waves of men in seamless white robes and veiled women in long dresses joined voices in a crescendo chanting Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik (O God, here I am answering your call).

The pilgrims were completely lost to their surroundings in a fervor of religious enthusiasm. Many had tears streaming down their cheeks while others raised their faces to the sky, beseeching Allah for forgiveness and mercy.  Continue reading

The Standing of ‘Arafah for Non-Pilgrims

I found this article relevant and very appreciative. So re-posting here.

The root Waw Qaaf and Faa in Arabic, commonly refers to standing as is used in Wuqoof ‘Arafaah i.e. The Standing on Mount ‘Arafah. It also carries the meaning of stopping or pausing. Whilst the former is unattainable for all those who did not make the pilgrimage this year, the latter is an altogether more attainable concept.  Continue reading

Today is the Day!

Arafah, the 9th Day of Dhul Hijjah is the greatest of all days of the Islamic Calendar.

Greater than even the blessed nights of Laylatul Qadr!

And today is the day. Here in UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Great things happen on this day. Wa lil-laahil Hamd!

Note: Please check with your local/regional announcement to confirm the day SO THAT you can do things according to that, and not according to Saudi Arabia’s calculation!

Please proceed to read/recall some facts about the Day of Arafah, Inshaa’Allah.  Continue reading

Message from Makkah

Today is 8th Dhul Hijjah 1434. First day of Hajj.

Hajj, an amazing act of worship commenced and institutionalized about 4000 years ago under the iconic leadership of Prophet Ibraheem alaihis salam.

Muslims from every nook and corner of the world have gathered in Makkah. They have come from far and wide, from every distant pass using all modes of transportation available today.

Fireworks all the way!

The story of this noble man is stunningly spectacular. Striking impressive. Marvelously captivating. Miraculously amazing. And beautifully inspiring!

Born in the midst of a sea of statues and idols, he grew up to shatter every ill-conceived idea his family and fellow citizens had formed about the Lord of the worlds.

He used every possible way to convince his people, starting with his father, that there can be human dignity only when you submit and surrender to the One True Lord Who is the Creator and the only Care-Taker of all.  Continue reading
