The Sunnahs of Fasting

Fasting is one of the greatest acts of worship, and the reward of the one who fasts, seeking thereby the reward of Allah, is not known to anyone except Allah. The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, said: ‘Every deed of the son of Adam is for him, except fasting. It is for Me and I shall reward for it.’” Narrated by al-Bukhaari (1904) and Muslim (1151)

The Ramadan fast is one of the pillars of Islam, and the Muslim must pay attention to preserving his fast, whether it is obligatory or supererogatory, so that Allah may bestow upon him this abundant reward.

Right from the beginning of his mission as the Last and Final Messenger of Allah to mankind down to his last breath, Prophet Muhammad Sal-lal-laahu-alaihi-wa-sallam, has taught us hundreds of du’aas (supplications) and ways to remember and glorify Allah (adhkaar). Du’aas and Adhkaar that are simple, yet splendid! Mind-boggling, yet insightful! Lucid, yet marvelous!  Precise, yet comprehensive! Humble, yet piercing!  We have no choice but to marvel at this glorious Prophet’s humility and worship towards his Creator. 

Ramadhaan fasts + 6 Shawwal fasts make fasting every day!

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Eid-ul-Fitr marks the first day of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar.

Fasting six days of the month of Shawwal is mentioned in authentic ahadeeth.

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 

“Whosoever fasted in Ramadhaan and then followed up with six fasting days of Shawwal, it is like fasting every day.” (Muslim)

“Rely on Allah, and Do Not Give Up…”

When Prophet Muhammad (sal…) said: “Strive for what benefits you…” he was encouraging us to hasten in seizing the positive opportunities that come our way.

When he added: “… and rely on Allah…”, he was showing us that we should draw upon our faith in order to strengthen ourselves in our efforts.

This is why the Prophet (sal…) did not stop there. He continued by saying: “… and do not give up.”

The Truth About Hateem

A few points about Hateem are worth knowing. Here you go….

1. Hateem is a semicircular wall on one side of the Ka’bah, the extremities of which are in a line with the sides of the Ka’bah, and distant about six feet leaving an opening.

A Sound Heart Makes Life Meaningful

العقل السليم في الجسم السليم ‘A sound mind in a sound body’ is a popular proverb of a bygone era.

The modern version is الجسم السليم في العقل السليم ‘A sound body in a sound mind’.

Dhikr, Dhikra, Tadhkira.

Qur’an is ذكر Dhikr. Qur’an is الذِّكْرَىٰ Dhikra. Qur’an is تذكرة Tadhkira as well.

Prophet Muhammad sal-lal-laahu-alaihi-wa-sallam, the one who presented the Qur’an to the world, is مذكّر Mudhakkir. One of the purposes of the Qur’an is to make people يتذكرون ‘Yatadhak’karoon’.

So, at the outset, what is the meaning of Dhikr, Dhikra and Tadhkira?
