Muslims and Shabaan

Sha’bān is the month where last year’s account of good and bad actions for every individual ascends to Allāh. As we know, there are four instances when our actions ascend to Allāh: the daily record, weekly record, yearly record, and the whole life record. [1] Continue reading

Unlocking the Locked Hearts

In Surah Muhammad there is this thinking ayah:

أَفَلَا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ الْقُرْآنَ أَمْ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبٍ أَقْفَالُهَا

The meaning of this ayah attracts my attention. It is normally translated as follows:

“Then do they not reflect upon the Qur’an, or are there locks upon [their] hearts?” [Surah Muhammad 47: 24

But there is more to the meaning than this translation.  Continue reading

The more you reflect, the closer you get!

Note: Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah. I am re-posting this with the intention to spread the word that Qur’an should be read with understanding. Baarakallahu Feekum.

There are many “religious” books available in the spiritual supermarkets of the world. How many of them tell their readers or followers to ponder and reflect over their teachings?

Do you know that there are some wonderful religious books – so “wonderful” that you don’t need a brain to understand!

The Qur’an never makes its readers mentally-challenged! Alhamdulillaah.

The Qur’an is unique. It tells you to think. It makes you to think.

The miracle in ‘Aayah’

This aayah enchants me a lot: سَنُرِيهِمْ آيَاتِنَا فِي الْآفَاقِ وَفِي أَنفُسِهِمْ حَتَّىٰ يَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُمْ أَنَّهُ الْحَقُّ

“We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth.” (Surah Fussilat 41: 53)

And this aayah:

“It is He who has sent among the unlettered a Messenger from themselves reciting to them His verses and purifying them and teaching them the Book and wisdom – although they were before in clear error”. (Surah al Jumu’ah 62: 2)

The myriad of meanings that the word ‘aayah’ connotes is miraculous indeed.

The verses of the Qur’an are in fact the signs of understanding for men of understanding!

The Heart and the Qur’an

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem

The more important part of your ‘person’ is your inner self. This inner self the Quran calls the qalb or the ‘heart’. The heart of the Prophet  was the first recipient of the Quranic message:

Truly it has been sent down by the Lord of all the worlds, the Trustworthy Spirit has alighted with it upon your heart [O Prophet], that you may be one of the Warner … (Quran 26:192-194)

You will therefore reap the full joys and blessings of reading the Qur’an when you are able to involve your heart fully in your task.
