Six Miraculous Verses of Surah Ar-Room

Man is a unique creation because of his thinking faculty. We humans possess the power of reasoning. After all this is what that differentiates man from animals.

Some Qur’anic gems are first presented here for open minds and yearning hearts. Then some miraculous aspects of these verses are highlighted to kindle the thought process Inshaaallah.

And of His signs is that He created you from dust; then, suddenly you were human beings dispersing [throughout the earth].” (Surah Ar-Room 30: 20)

“And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.” (Surah Ar-Room 30: 21)

“And of His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth and the diversity of your languages and your colors. Indeed in that are signs for those of knowledge” (Surah Ar Room 30: 22)

“And of His signs is your sleep by night and day and your seeking of His bounty. Indeed in that are signs for a people who listen.” (Surah Ar-Room 30: 23)

“And of His signs is [that] He shows you the lightning [causing] fear and aspiration, and He sends down rain from the sky by which He brings to life the earth after its lifelessness. Indeed in that are signs for a people who use reason.” (Surah Ar-Room 30: 24)

“And of His signs is that the heaven and earth remain by His command. Then when He calls you with a [single] call from the earth, immediately you will come forth.” (Surah Ar-Room 30: 25)

Here are some points for your reflection:

1. All the above verses talk about different Signs of Allah but the miraculous aspect lies in the way they are presented. Herein lies man’s test of genius. Either you respond to what is being said or prove your stupidity by denying the reality.

2. Just think over: Why Allah says li-qaumin yatafakkaruun – for a people who give thought – when He mentions about the purpose of creation of man and woman?

“And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.”

3. Just think over: Why Allah says that these signs are for men of knowledge – lil ‘aalimeen – when He is talking about the creation of the heavens and earth and the variation in languages and colours?

“And of His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth and the diversity of your languages and your colors. Indeed in that are signs for those of knowledge

4. Just think over: Why Allah says that there are signs for those who listen -li-qaumin-yasma’oon – when He refers to sleep by night and working by day?

“And of His signs is your sleep by night and day and your seeking of His bounty. Indeed in that are signs for a people who listen.”

5. What could be the reason why Allah says there are signs for a people who use reason – li qaumin-ya’qiloon – while talking about lighting, sky, rain, earth and life?

“And of His signs is [that] He shows you the lightning [causing] fear and aspiration, and He sends down rain from the sky by which He brings to life the earth after its lifelessness. Indeed in that are signs for a people who use reason.”

6. Four verses are sandwiched (21 to 24) between two amazing verses (verse 20 and 25) in which Allah has adopted a totally different approach to convey the same message but with a difference in style. This highlights the beauty of the Qur’an and establishes its miraculous aspect.

Though Allah mentions about His signs in both the aayahs (verse 20 and 25) Allah has not mentioned the phrase ‘in these are signs for a people……’ as He mentions in the verses that comes between them (verses 21 to 24)

In both the verses the message is straight and direct: There are signs in the creation of man from dust (verse 20) and there are signs in the resurrection of man from dust (verse 25) Subhanallah!

Not only this, there is a sublime connection and cohesion between verse 20 and 25: Man came from dust, will go back to dust after he dies and will be raised again from dust only to return to the Source of all creation: Allah, the Creator.

Another possible wisdom in not specifically mentioning the phrase Inna fi zaalika la’aayaat in verses 20 and 24 could be to forcefully convey the message: whether you consider your humble origin and humble end as a Sign of the power of your Lord or not, you will definitely go back to Allah. Your belief or disbelief in Allah will not change the reality.

I conclude this post with yet another thought-provoking aayah:

“And He shows you His signs. So which of the signs of Allah do you deny?” (Surah Ghaafir 40: 81)

Sal-lal-laahu ‘Ala Muhammad, Sal-lal-laahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam.

Jazakallaahu Khayra for reading this post.
