3 Attitudes that Distinguish man from a donkey!

In different languages and educational systems, there are common approaches to drive home a point and make one understand the significance of something. One such approach is the usage of idioms and proverbs.

Allah, Who created man and gave him cognizance and the power of speech, uses superior similes and examples to put sense in his mind so that he reflects, applies his mind and develops some reasonable attitudes in life. Continue reading

Yusra Vs ‘Usra

Yusr, Yusra or Yaseer means ease or relief and ‘Usr, ‘Usra or ‘Aseer means hardship or difficulty.

Both are part and parcel of human life.

Everybody wants to make his or her life free of hardship and difficulties.

Islam guides people as to what leads to ease and comfort and what brings misery, distress and difficulties.

Forgiveness and The Fast of ‘Aashura

In UAE, Saudi Arabia and some adjoining countries, Tomorrow (3rd Nov 2014) is the 10th of Muharram, popularly known as ”Aashura”. Please check out the date as to when ‘Aashura falls in your locality, and do the needful accordingly, Inshaa’Allah.

This is in response to the question, “I heard that fasting the day of ‘Aashoora’ expiates for the past year, is this true?  Does it expiate for everything, even major sins? What is the reason for venerating this day?” taken from IslamQA. It is given here owing to its importance and relevance. Baarakallahu feekum.

Between Two Inshaa’Allahs….

There is a great deal of similarity and difference in the Inshaa’Allahs uttered by two great Prophets of Allah, Prophet Moosa and Prophet Ismaeel (May Allah’s peace and mercy be upon them)

Through their stories, let us try to learn a basic fact that nothing in the world can happen without the permission and will of Allah, Inshaa’Allah…..

Aspects of Dawah in Surah al Kahf

Surah al Kahf is an encyclopedia in itself! Subhanallaah!

As we read and understand the Surah, we come across four different aspects of Dawah.

Dawah is to call people to Islam, to advise people about what is Right and what is wrong, to remind those who have forgotten their duties and to stand up against injustice and oppression.  Continue reading

Fast of Aashura, and when?

The 10th of Muharram is popularly known as Aashura.

Fasting on this day is highly encouraged.

There seems to surround some confusion with regard to the dates.

As per the Saudi announcement, Aashura falls on Thursday, the 14th November. As per the dates given in UAE Awqaf Ministry’s website, 10th Muharam falls on Wednesday, 13th Nov.

While it is true that we must always go by the local announcement about the sighting of the moon and the commencement of the month, in this case I feel it is better to fast on both days, i.e. 13th and 14th November, Inshaa’Allah.

Some of the merits of the fast of Aashura are mentioned below:  Continue reading

A du’aa from the bottom of a Believer’s heart

Young man he was. Always of caring and helpful nature. Would get upset at the slightest sight of oppression.

One day he sees two men fighting. He sides with the oppressed. In a bid to stop fighting, he gives a blow to the oppressor. The person falls dead.

He was a very sensitive youth. He feels sorry for his unintentional killing.

The king who was greatest oppressor would not leave this youth. How dare someone kills a man of the ruler’s clan. He  orders that the ‘killer’ be arrested and brought in chains.  Continue reading

The world must follow Prophet Muhammad to achieve success and salvation!

Ever since the release of the latest dirty video on our Prophet (peace be upon him), I was thinking to write on the historical reason behind mockery and the hate campaign. The question why Islam and its Prophet is always under attack by some groups of people has just one word answer: Jealousy! Read on…..

The Jews and Christians were already informed by their respective Prophets – Prophet Moosa and Prophet Eesa (Moses and Jesus, Peace be upon them) – about the coming of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the need to obey and follow him.

The Old Testament is old and outdated and the New Testament is no more new. Now, the world has to follow the Last and Final Testament, that is the Qur’an. This is the only way and there can’t be any other alternative to success. Arrogance and prejudice have be to shed and things must be seen clearly.  Continue reading

“Rahmah” in Surah al Kahf

Last Friday,  I was reading Surah al Kahf as usual. While reading a thought came to my mind about Rahmah – grace, compassion and mercy. As i was proceeding, i got slow in recitation because my mind was wonder struck at the word ‘Rahmah’ being frequently used in this Surah. Then i paused for a while and thought may be this is yet another miracle of this Surah. A thought came to my mind that Rahmah could even be the theme of this Surah. Continue reading

Psychological Human Behaviour Faced by a Caller to Islam

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem

Assalamu Alaikum. I found this article very interesting as it highlights the psychological human behaviour faced by the callers to Islam. The author, Sr. Sadaf Farooqi, discusses brilliantly in the light of the story of Prophet Musa (Peace be upon him) and the cruel king Fir’aoun. Read on…..

When one goes through the Qur’an the first few times, one wonders why it has so much repetition of apparently the same incidents, e.g. the punishments meted out to transgressing past nations, stories from the lives of Prophets, and descriptive reminders of the torments and rewards of the Hereafter.

The Quran also seems to repeatedly “comfort” Prophet Muhammad [صلى الله عليه و سلم] by recounting to him the difficulties bygone prophets faced from antagonists. This is perhaps to make it easier for him to cope with the enmity he faced from people after he started calling them towards the monotheistic Deen of Islam.  Continue reading

Moses and Al-Khidr: Model of Resolution

Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem.

One of the stylistic tools used by the Glorious Qur’an to convey its message is narratives (qasas), which can be found in the Qur’an in different forms and for different purposes. The Qur’an relates the stories of the previous nations, stories of the prophets, descriptions of certain events, etc. All in all, the objective is clear: It is a teaching, glad tidings for believers, a reminder, and a warner. So in all the stories of the Qur’an, there is a lesson for people to derive, not just a narration or a mere tale-telling, as Allah says: Continue reading

Qur’an: The Eternal Truth

The Prophet Moses, born in Egypt in the 15th century B.C., was chosen by God to be His messenger. In those days, Egypt was under the dynastic rule of the Pharaohs, who were idolaters. The Prophet Moses encountered two of the kings of this dynasty: one was appointed to be his guardian by God, while the other was one with whom he came into confrontation during his missionary struggle.
