Punctuality, the punctured wheel!

You can’t drive with a punctured wheel. And if you try driving, you will only cause accident.

In the wheel of life, there shouldn’t be any holes. Wasting time or not being punctual is an act of puncturing.

More than anyone, Prophet Muhammad sal-lal-laahu-alaihi-wa-sallam has taught us so much about the importance of time. Islam inculcates punctuality in us.

Education and Three Types of Nafs

‘Nafs’ lexically means, soul, the psyche, ego, self, essence, heart or mind.

A closer look into the Islamic concept of the nafs highlights the intricate and complex composition of the inner self.  They are considered to be a single entity, although its state may change.  There are three types of nafs’ that are mentioned in the Qur’an, Nafs al-Ammara Bissu (the commanding soul) (Ch. 12:53), Nafs al-Lawwama (the Soul that Blames) (Ch. 75:2) and the Nafs al-Mutma`inna (the Soul at Peace) (Ch. 89:27).  Continue reading

Ramadhaan: A Call for Return and Reform

Of this month, Allaah Says (what means):

“The month of Ramadhaan [is that] in which was revealed the Quran, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey – then an equal number of other days. Allaah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and [wants] for you to complete the period and to glorify Allaah for that [to] which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful.” [Quran 2: 185] Continue reading

Moses and Al-Khidr: Model of Resolution

Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem.

The Qur’an relates the stories of the previous nations, stories of the prophets, descriptions of certain events, etc. All in all, the objective is clear: It is a teaching, glad tidings for believers, a reminder, and a warner. So in all the stories of the Qur’an, there is a lesson for people to derive, not just a narration or a mere tale-telling, as Allah says: Continue reading
