The general purpose of presenting human history in the Qur’an is to warn people not to repeat the mistakes of the perished nations.

Surah al Haqqaah begins with a vivid description of the destruction of the People of Saalih (Thamood), Huud (‘Aad), Musa (Phir’oun), Luut (Mu’tafikaat) and Nooh.

What comes after the historical narrative is a miracle in human language. A clarion call to heed to the message of the glorious Qur’an. A pointer towards effective listening!

Forgiveness and The Fast of ‘Aashura

In UAE, Saudi Arabia and some adjoining countries, Tomorrow (3rd Nov 2014) is the 10th of Muharram, popularly known as ”Aashura”. Please check out the date as to when ‘Aashura falls in your locality, and do the needful accordingly, Inshaa’Allah.

This is in response to the question, “I heard that fasting the day of ‘Aashoora’ expiates for the past year, is this true?  Does it expiate for everything, even major sins? What is the reason for venerating this day?” taken from IslamQA. It is given here owing to its importance and relevance. Baarakallahu feekum.

Fast of Aashura, and when?

The 10th of Muharram is popularly known as Aashura. 

Fasting on this day is highly encouraged.

There seems to surround some confusion with regard to the dates.

As per the Saudi announcement, Aashura falls on Thursday, the 14th November. As per the dates given in UAE Awqaf Ministry’s website, 10th Muharam falls on Wednesday, 13th Nov.

While it is true that we must always go by the local announcement about the sighting of the moon and the commencement of the month, in this case I feel it is better to fast on both days, i.e. 13th and 14th November, Inshaa’Allah.

Water and Prophet Musa: The connecting factor!

1. Musa was born at a time when mass slaughter of the baby boys was going on in Egypt. The cruel King in the name of Phir’oun had decreed that every single baby boy born among the Bani Israel must be killed.

Meanwhile, Allah put a thought in the mind of a blessed mother.
