Arabic language is uniquely distinct, and Qur’anic Arabic is distinctly unique.

The word used for knowledge, as we all know, is عِلم (‘ilm) Remember the du’aa Rabbee Zidnee ‘ilma

The beauty in the word is when you change its vowels, the meaning too changes. And changes in a miraculous way! 

Being a Part of the Blessed Community

ذو as in Surah al Kahf or ذي as in Surah Ar-Rahman is a possessive noun which is always followed by a noun; ذو or ذي means possessor, owner, holder, master of, endowed with. 

The plural form of ذو is اولو – ulu, which is followed by the genitive ‘of’.

اولو means owners of, possessors of , people of.

I love this great companion of the glorious Messenger, Prophet Muhammad sal-lal-laahu-alaihi-wa-sallam. His life and teachings, dedication and contribution has been tremendously marvellous. He is truly an inspiration for all times to come.

Prophet Muhammad sal-lal-laahu-alaih-wa-sallam said about Mu`aadh ibn Jabal:

“Verily, when the people of knowledge will be present before their Lord, the Mighty and Sublime, Mu`aadh will be one step ahead of them.” *

Rabbee Zidnee ‘Ilma

 رَّبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا Those who know this du’aa from their childhood and are in the habit of making this du’aa very often are immensely fortunate.

By teaching this du’aa, parents and teachers in fact connect their children with knowledge and the Source of all knowledge.  And this connection stays till a person’s last breath. Subhanallaah!

Affectionately taught by man’s very First Teacher – Allah – to man’s Last Prophetic-Teacher, Prophet Muhammad (sal-lal-laahu-alahi-wa-sallam), this du’aa is highly meaningful:

True Wisdom: The Source of abundant favours

[Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth extol Allah, the King, the Superb Holy, the Ever-Mighty, the Ever-Wise. He is the One Who has sent forth among the illiterate a Messenger from among them, to recite His signs to them, and to cleanse them, and to teach them the Book and the Wisdom, though they were earlier indeed in evident error. And (He has sent him to) others of them who have not yet joined them; and He is the Ever-Mighty, the Ever-Wise. That is the Grace of Allah; He grants it to whomever He decides; and Allah is the Owner of the Ever-Magnificent Grace.] (Al-Jumu`ah 62:1-4)

[He gives wisdom to whom He wills, and he to whom wisdom is given has truly received abundant good. But none remembers except people of understanding.] (Al-Baqarah 2:269)
