Knowledge, the Flagship of the Ummah!

بسم الله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله

Arabic language is uniquely distinct, and Qur’anic Arabic is distinctly unique.

The word used for knowledge, as we all know, is عِلم (‘ilm) Remember the du’aa Rabbee Zidnee ‘ilma

The beauty in the word is when you change its vowels, the meaning too changes. And changes in a miraculous way! 

‘ilm becoming ‘alam.

And when عِلم becomes عَلَم Knowledge becomes a Flag.

Now, you see the connection. Knowledge is one’s flag. One’s banner. One’s standard. And it should be rightly so, isn’t it?

When you acquire knowledge, you are actually planning to have a flag in hand. The flag of leadership. The flag of being a role model. The flag of civilizational advancement. Subhanallaah.

So when an individual Muslim, or the Muslim Ummah as a whole, acquires knowledge, it only signals leadership.

And only those who have knowledge and excel others in areas of scientific, educational and ethical advancement alone can lead the world.

If only the Ummah realises!!
