An Effort in Facilitation

Being a Part of the Blessed Community

ذو as in Surah al Kahf or ذي as in Surah Ar-Rahman is a possessive noun which is always followed by a noun; ذو or ذي means possessor, owner, holder, master of, endowed with.

The plural form of ذو is اولو – ulu, which is followed by the genitive ‘of’.

اولو means owners of, possessors of , people of.

In the Qur’an, there are about 20 different phrases that include the word ulul/uli such as ulul arhaam, ulul albaab etc.

  1. I feel like the title should be: May you be among the possessors (of endowments granted by Allah)? I am not so sure about it. Initially, I did think that it would be related to jinns. But, when I actually look and read, the dua’as are meaningful and are aiming towards virtues and merits. Thanks for posting and sharing.

    • Jazakallah Khayr for your suggestion and comment.
Actually I was writing a different post under the title O Allah make us among the Ulul albaab and there i was discussing about these phrases ulul arhaam etc. and an idea struck to make it as separate post and incidentally the actual post got held up!!
Let me see if any comments/suggestions are coming up. Otherwise I will change the title, InshaaAllah.
      Thank you once again.
