Saturday is Aashoora Day
Please be reminded that today (Thursday) is 8th of Muharram and Aashoora falls on Saturday (24th October 2015) in UAE, Saudi Arabia and in many other parts of the world.
As per authentic Islamic traditions we are encouraged to fast either on the 9th and 10th of Muharram OR on the 10th and 11th.
This clarification is given here as there is confusion created by the already published calendars by some Muslim governments which erroneously say that today is 9th of Muharram which is NOT the case.
Adding to the confusion is the wrong date mentioned in some newspapers in the UAE. Even Gulf News, a popular UAE Newspaper, has given the wrong date!! Khaleej Times seems to be confused either. In the morning, the date mentioned online was 8 Muharram, but now it says 9 Muharram!!
Please check UAE AWQAAF website for reference. Also check the date given in tomorrow’s Jumuah Khutbah Also see the picture below issue by Sharjah Directorate of Islamic Affairs which clearly announces the dates:
Baarakallaahu Feekum.
PS: Thinking that today (i.e. Thursday) is 9th some Muslims have kept fast. No problem, brothers and sisters, as keeping fast on Thursdays is also a sunnah. Just make sure that you fast on saturday as well. For Indo-Pak region, please check for the local announcement.

Jazakallau khair for the valuable information, most of them fasting today as believed thru paper and on the calendar mentioned today is 9th Muharram. now the confusion cleared.

Totally wrong, today is 9 Muharram falling exactly on Thursday, as usual Eid Adha’s day.

We only follow the Ulul Amr.
As per the announcement tomorrow is 9th.

1st of Muharram was on Thursday, 15th Oct.
So fifth day was Monday, 19th Oct.
This is for UAE and Saudi Arabia.
