Taaghuut. What is Taaghuut?

بسم الله والصلاة ةالسلام على رسول الله

Qur’anic words are more complex, richer and eloquent. They convey myriad of meanings.

Translators find it difficult to convey their precise interpretation. Taaghuut is one such word.

The best approach would be to retain such a word without translating it, and let the Qur’anic Arabic speak for itself.  Continue reading

The miracle in Tawaf, the purpose of human existence!

Ka’bah plays a pivotal role in the life of a Muslim. It is an indispensable part of a Muslim’s life.

It is a Muslim’s anchor and nucleus. It is the centre of our life and existence. It is our Qiblah.

Ka’bah is the symbol of monotheism. The flag of Islam.

Yet Ka’bah itself is an empty building with nothing inside.  Continue reading

Tafseer of the Last Tenth of the Qur’an with crucial matters

Tafseer al ‘Ushr al Akheer min al Qur’an al Kareem is a very popular Tafseer book.

This is a summarized book that contains the most important matters that a Muslim needs in his life: from Qur’an, hadeeth, tafseer, fiqh rulings, beliefs, virtues, etc. This book is in 2 parts:

The first part includes simple translation and brief explanation to the Last Tenth of the Qur’an (that is, the three last parts – Ajza – of the Qur’an) from Zubdat At-Tafseer by Shaykh Muhammad Al-Ashqar.

The second part contains rulings concerning the Muslim, which includes:  Continue reading

Bestowing and withholding: The prerogative of Allah alone!

Among the prescribed Azkaar which we say everyday at the end of each obligatory Salah, this is a beautiful supplication (du’aa). It is concise and comprehensive.

Belief in Tawheed is eloquently expressed in a finest manner through this du’aa, which includes the Tahleel and Tahmeed. This du’aa also signifies a Believer’s Tawakkul in His Lord, Most Gracious.

Let us first read the hadeeth which describes this du’aa and then with the help of Qur’aanic verses try to understand some elements which will enhance our belief in Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala, Inshaa’Allah.  Continue reading

The weak combo!

To be weak is to do nothing. It is an expression of one’s helplessness.

When judges are not presented with credible evidence, they call the case weak and dismiss it! When a person is not able to sit, the doctors say that the patient is weak.

The Qur’an gives vivid descriptions of some terribly weak cases.  Continue reading

Is it right to use the word ‘Samaritan’ for a good person?

While teaching/reading the story of Prophet Musa, this question always crosses my mind: Is it right for Muslims to use the word ‘Samaritan’ to mean or refer to a good-natured person? The Oxford Dictionary mentions that ‘a good samaritan’ is an idiom which means ‘a person who gives sympathy and help to people’.

Language is built up upon culture and values. The people who use this word have taken it from their culture and religion. How can a Muslim use this word to refer to someone doing a good act? There are two versions to the story.  Continue reading
