That “Big Step” and this Shameful Rainbow!

On 26th June 2015, when the US Supreme Court made ‘gay marriage legal across the United States’, their President hailed the judgement as “a big step in our march toward equality”. Being a Mutawas’sim in an age of perdition!

Two days ago, while teaching Qur’anic recitation to a student, I came across this unique word in Surah al Hijr that attracted my attention. I started to find whether Allah has used this word in any other place in His Glorious Book. I found that this word is used only once in the complete Qur’an.

The story of Prophet Luut and his people

Prophet Luut, may Allaah exalt his mention, left Egypt, accompanied by his uncle Ibraaheem, may Allaah exalt his mention, and headed to the city of Sodom in Palestine, which was on the western shore of the Dead Sea.

This city was filled with evil. Its residents waylaid, robbed and killed travellers. Another common evil among them was that their men used to have sex with men instead of women. This unnatural act later became known as sodomy, after the city of Sodom. It was practiced openly and unashamedly. Continue reading
