2015: International Year of Light

The Year 2015 is observed as the International Year of Light by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation. It was officially launched today at UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris, France.

An initiative of UNESCO and a large consortium of scientific bodies including the prestigious 1001 Inventions, the International Year of Light will consist of coordinated activities on national, regional and international levels. Wide range of activities are planned so that people of all ages and all backgrounds can gain an appreciation for the central role of light in life, science and culture, and as a cross-cutting scientific discipline that can advance sustainable development.

Muslim intellectuals and organisations must render their total support to this global programme especially because this is the theme of Prophet Muhammad’s mission: From Darkness To Light. Continue reading
