When You Don’t Take Care!

بسم الله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله

It has happened to me and you may have experienced this as well.

In the real world, your family and well-wishers tell you to take care. They remind you that your body has a right over you. That you need to take care of it. In social media, friends etc. wish you well saying, ‘Take good care of yourself’.

In reality, if you don’t pay heed and don’t take care, you only harm yourself, right?

No wonder then that the Prophet Ibraheem (AS) took upon himself the cause of falling sick or getting afflicted with pain.

Note the shift in his proclamations about Allah, the Lord of the worlds, in the 3rd verse:

ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَنِى فَهُوَ يَهْدِينِ
“(He is the One) Who created me, and He [it is He who] guides me.
وَٱلَّذِى هُوَ يُطْعِمُنِى وَيَسْقِينِ
“And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink.
وَإِذَا مَرِضْتُ فَهُوَ يَشْفِينِ
“And when I am ill, it is He who cures me.”

(Surah Ash-Shu’araa 78-80)

He could have said: It is He Who makes me fall sick, and it is He who cures me. But No! He said, “When I fall sick, it is He who cures me”. However, in the previous assertions, he plainly said, “He created me, He guides me. He feeds me, He gives me drink’. Subhanallaah!

When you don’t take care of yourself, you only have yourself to blame and none else!

May Allah guide us to take good care of ourselves. May He cure the afflicted ones as He is the Healer, the Giver of Cure – Ash-Shaafee.

Wallaahu Waliyut-Tawfeeque.
