The Truth About Hateem

A few points about Hateem are worth knowing. Here you go….

1. Hateem is a semicircular wall on one side of the Ka’bah, the extremities of which are in a line with the sides of the Ka’bah, and distant about six feet leaving an opening.

2. Hateem was originally part of the foundations of the Ka’bah. In other words, Ka’bah was originally in rectangular shape.

3. It should also be noted that it is not permissible to make Tawaaf  between the Hateem wall and the Ka’bah because it will be considered as going through the Ka’bah and not around it!

4. Praying in Hateem area is like praying inside Ka’bah.

5. Hateem is also called as Hijr and that Hateem is the Hijr itself.

6. Some misguided people ‘believe’ that Prophet Ismaeel alaihis salam is buried in Hateem area. The Permanent Committee on Research and Verdicts says:

“That which is said in regard to Isma’eel (peace and blessing be upon him) being buried in al-Hateem is not correct and we do not rely upon this in any circumstance”.

  1. Only part of the hateem was part of the original Kabah. The part closest to the actual current Kabah.
