2015: International Year of Light

The Year 2015 is observed as the International Year of Light by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation. It was officially launched today at UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris, France.

An initiative of UNESCO and a large consortium of scientific bodies including the prestigious 1001 Inventions, the International Year of Light will consist of coordinated activities on national, regional and international levels. Wide range of activities are planned so that people of all ages and all backgrounds can gain an appreciation for the central role of light in life, science and culture, and as a cross-cutting scientific discipline that can advance sustainable development.

Muslim intellectuals and organisations must render their total support to this global programme especially because this is the theme of Prophet Muhammad’s mission: From Darkness To Light.

This is a good opportunity for Muslim nations to join hands with the global Scientific communities in bringing out the significance of Light in the light of Qur’an and hadeeth

I feel this is the best global medium for Muslims to interact with intellectuals with all sections of society at all levels – local, regional and international – and convey the message of Islam, Inshaaallah.

Congratulations to 1001 Inventions for being a part of the sponsors of this truly appreciable venture. Other Muslim organisations must draw inspiration from this pioneer.

Year 2015 has been bad due to the infamous Paris episode, Why Not utilize this IYL initiative throughout the Year 2015 to bring out Islam’s perspective on Light to the center stage?

Let there be light. Nobody likes darkness.

Sal-lal-laahu ‘Ala Muhammad, Sal-lal-laahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam.

Baarakallaahu Feekum.
