An effort in f a c i l i t a t i o n

Beware of following the disbelievers!!

The next ayah in the series Yaaa Ayyuhal Lazeena Aamanu is ayah No. 149 of Surah Aali Imran.

You may recall that in Ayah No. 100 Allah warned Muslims against imitating and obeying the People of the Book, that is Ahlul Kitaab, the Jews and Christians.

Now here in this ayah, Allah cautions His believers against the dangers of following the disbelievers and the hypocrites.

“O you who have believed, if you obey those who disbelieve, they will turn you back on your heels, and you will [then] become losers.” (Surah Aali Imran 3: 149)

Listen to this Beautiful Recitation

The historical background behind the revelation of this ayah is necessary to understand the ayah in a better way.

When Muslims faced a temporary setback during the Battle of Uhud and rumours went around that the Prophet (sal-lal-laahu-alaihi-wa-sallam) has been martyred, the hypocrites found an occasion for mischief. They said to ‘Now that the Prophet is no more with us, why should we not go back to our faith and thus get rid of all conflicts within us?’. This shows how ugly the conduct of hypocrites was and how avowed an enemy they were to Muslims.

In this ayah, Muslims have been instructed not to listen to such enemies, nor to make them a party to consultation among themselves, nor follow any advice given by them.

The expression, “they will turn you back on your heels” means that the real objective of the anti-Islamic people is to disengage Muslims from their Faith through engineered suspicion either overtly or covertly, the later method being designed and implemented in a manner which serves to gradually decrease the love and honour of Islam from their hearts resulting in a reversal of their position. Thus those aiming to push in a state of loss cannot be their friends, even if they claim to be.

In the next ayah, Allah tells Muslims to place their trust in Him and rely on His help alone. Even if their antagonists come up with plans of help, Muslims should not go by these against the injunctions of Allah and His Messenger.

Jazakallahu Khayra for reading this post.

  2. We are currently are in this position now. “O you who have believed, if you obey those who disbelieve, they will turn you back on your heels, and you will [then] become losers.” (Surah Aali Imran 3: 149) with the onslaught of the disbelievers coming at a rapid pace, in the dunya and the cowardly way that some who say they are Muslim reacts to this worldly life, it is a shame to see the state of our ummah today. But Allah -Akbar, his way (Deen)and his plan will defeat those who willfully hurt Muslims and those who say they believe but go against his commands. The true victory will Insha Allah comesoon enough. We pray for Allah’s help and may the peace and blessing be upon his guiding light ( prophet Muhammad saaws). Ameen
